Guild Researcher Oane's Lectures 3

Sebestyen wrote:
[Paladins' Guild, The Great Chamber]
Tapestries and flickering torches line the walls of the circular meeting room. Eight sets of silverwood benches, arranged in ascending rows, face a central speaker's podium. The topmost row, a full three Tog-lengths above the main floor, sits at eye level with a large chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. You also see some brass-bound ironwood doors and a winding ironwood staircase.
Also in the room: Sentry Ahlla, Squire Palorn, Guild Researcher Oane, and Drehyk.
Obvious exits: none.

You see Guild Researcher Oane Hannitraulm, a Human Paladin.
He has black eyes. He is bald, with pale skin.
He is aged for a Human.
He has a thick bushy mustache that droops heavily on his upper lip and a long shaggy beard.
He is in good shape.

He is wearing an ink-stained leather scholar's satchel, some brass-riveted jousting plate, a blue linen tabard dyed with the bright green emblem of the lion of Chadatru, a pair of burgundy leather boots lined in soft black wool, a jadeite gwethdesuan, a kyanite gwethdesuan and a black linen bag.

Oane steps up to the podium and smiles. "Hello again!" he says. "I see some familiar faces in the crowd and I m very happy to see some of you again."

Oane places a well worn book with loose papers on the podium.

Ahlla sits down on the silverwood bench.

Oane says, "My name is Oane and I head up the research and archiving department of the Paladin Guild. The Paladin Council mandates my job and responsibilities."

Oane says, "Welcome to the third and last lecture in the History of the Paladin Guild Lecture Series. Tonight's lecture is entitled "Unsolved Mysteries!""

Oane says, "Let's start the lecture off with something that probably should have belonged in one of my books."

Oane opens the worn book on the podium and says, "For those of you that have been attending my lectures, it is important to realize that an organized group of paladins is not a newer type of concept since the inception of the paladin council."

Oane says, "What is new is a successful guild that has endured the recent centuries through stable guildhalls, strong guildleaders, dedicated council, and diligent members."

Oane smiles.

Oane steps away from the podium and raises his hands in front of him stating, "There are documents and artifacts supporting the existence of paladins so far back that we aren't even sure how old the stories are."

Oane asks, "But who were these paladins back then? What were their ideals and motivations?"

Raising his hands back down, he steps back to the podium and fiddles with his beard.

Oane says, "Without some sort of time traveling magic, we will never be able to answer that. But one thing we know is that they were deeply religious. "

Oane grins like a child with a lollipop and exclaims, "Which brings me to today's first unsolved mystery!"

Oane says, ""Where are the Temples of Rutilor?""

Oane raises an eyebrow.

Oane says, "Let me first explain what these temples were."

Oane clears his throat and steps away from the podium again. "Paladins built these temples as if commissioned by Rutilor himself. This "commission" so to speak was a ritual, tradition, or enlightening experience called, "The Task of the Mongoose."

Oane says, "As I understand it..."

Oane says, "During a certain time of a certain year, some paladins would receive a vision or a mark from the Mongoose. These particular paladins would gather and spend a certain amount of days working on building a temple stone by stone with little to no outside assistance. "

Oane says, "I suspect there were some clergy members involved for blessings, but it was never noted. "

Waving his hands in a dismissive manner, he then says, "When the temple was finally built, it was used as a safehaven for other paladins to worship and congregate."

Oane says, "Then, at some point, the "Task" would begin anew and another marker given to build a new temple."

Oane raises his eyebrow and gives you a sideways glance.

Oane says, "Accounts have noted that some, if not all, of these temples were tall like a tower."

Oane asks, "So then... where are these temples located?"

Oane asks, "If there were towers built, how is it that not a single one remained?"

Oane asks, "Have they just gone to ruin and the stones in the foundation were stolen, eroded, or covered by other environments such as water or forest?"

Oane asks, "Is it even possible that these temples never really existed?"

Oane says, "My opinionated answers..."

Oane says, "They are scattered around Elanthia."

Oane says, "Yes."

Oane snickers.

Oane says, "No, I believe they did exist."

Oane pants.

Oane says, "I try to follow every lead possible and I m hopeful that we'll find something."

Oane flips through his worn book till he reaches a leather bookmark. As he flips open the book to the designated page, he says, "Today's next unsolved mystery follows a bit more from my first lecture."

Oane asks, "Who was behind the dark actions around the end of the first generation council?"

Oane says, "This has been a taboo subject within the paladin council for as long as I've ever known: corruption and murder at the highest level. I do not believe that the council wanted to keep everyone in the dark. I think it was just another shameful slap of mud in our otherwise, proud and honorable guild's face. "

Oane leans forward on the podium and lowers his voice, "But the reality is, it happened."

Oane says, "This particular section I'm going to cover may be a little bit confusing so I will first provide a timeline of events with my comments and then I'll tie it all in."

Oane says, "In my first lecture, I had made a little comment about murder."

Oane nods.

Oane says, "In 64 AV, Medern, one of the original councilors and also the first guildleader of Theren was found brutally murdered."

Oane says, "In 64 AV, Medern, one of the original councilors and also the first guildleader of Theren was found brutally murdered."

Oane says, "Also in 64 AV, relics and other artifacts went missing from the council vaults and libraries."

Oane tugs at his beard and says, "Jumping forward fourteen years, in 79 AV, investigations regarding the theft led the council to one of their own."

Oane says, "Also during that year, the first impeachment of a councilor occurred, and the half completed Theren guildhall is burned to the ground."

Oane shakes his head and mutters, "Those were truly dark days."

Oane says, "Now going back over the timeline, let me fill in a gap or two. To this day, Councilor Medern s killer was never officially discovered."

Oane says, "Ex Councilor Kraphae was found guilty of council artifact thievery and was impeached."

Oane says, "Conveniently, the guildhall was burned. The perpetrator was never found."

Oane says, "Why did I put murder, thievery, and arson together? The obvious answer is that it has been widely suspected that Kraphae was involved in all three."

Oane asks, "But did he do it?"

Oane says, "We know he stole from the guild."

Oane asks, "But could he have actually have murdered or contracted someone to murder Medern? And why?"

Oane says, "Let me provide some information about this man."

Oane says, "He was a second generation councilor and held in extremely high esteem. How he managed to dupe his way into the council or even remain a paladin is also a mystery."

Oane says, "As a councilor, Kraphae attempted to make changes to how things were run and somehow gained a dictator attitude even though all councilors are equal."

Oane says, "In addition, he passed off other people's ideas as if they were his own such as the Paladin Code."

Oane says, "Sorry, Medern, not Kraphae. I'm getting my councilors confused."

Oane ducks his head.

Oane says, "Let s face it. He was shady and ambitious."

Oane says, "It obviously made him a thief."

Oane says, "But a murderer or arsonist?" He then squints his eyes and purses his lips.

Oane nods.

Oane shrugs.

Oane asks, "All suspicion points to him. However, no evidence does. There was not a single shred of evidence linking Kraphae with the murder or the fire. But why would he do this? What motive would any paladin have to do such destructive and vile things?"

Oane says, "The council will tend to believe the most simplest of answers: Medern found out about Kraphae which brought about his death. Then Kraphae burned down the guildhall due to his removal."

Oane says, "It s a clean cut answer."

Oane asks, "And why did he steal to begin with?"

Oane says, "One journal from a councilor of the time made comments that Kraphae was maniacally insane after he joined the ranks of the council."

Oane says, "Official comments about Kraphae's removal simply indicates his treachery and lack of paladin virtues."

Oane says, "I am afraid this particular mystery will probably never reveal itself."

Oane turns some pages of his worn book and claps his hands, The next mystery today is "Who hid Emille s body and why?"

Oane exclaims, "Some of you had to have known I'd cover my current favorite subject!"

Oane winks.

Oane exclaims, "Emille the Fist of Forfedhar!"

Oane says, "As some of you may know, I assisted Asilias with the excavation of her tomb over the past year. There are so many mysteries surrounding this guildhall, tomb, and woman that I don t even know where to begin. We actually now know quite a bit about Emille."

Oane says, "She may be the one of the few from the old council days that we have the most information on, even more so now than ever."

Oane says, "For those of you that attended my first lecture will hopefully remember that Emille was not covered there. She is, in fact, not an original council member even though she sat with the first council. In a strange way, she was the first second generation council member."

Oane says, "Emille was a follower of Syal, the man who created the original council. She left her homeland to seek Syal out and learn from him. She played a major role with the creation of a council system and became an official member in 35 AV."

Oane says, "However, her time in the council was short, as she decided to head up the first Forfedhar guildhall ten years later."

Oane says, "It is believed that the Forfedhar guildhall was built by her father, an architect of repute. However, it is unclear what happened to either of them."

Oane says, "For these past centuries, it was believed that they both just passed on naturally. Based on the structure of the false tomb, we also believe it was built by her father which means he outlived her."

Oane says, "But let's talk reality for a moment."

Oane asks, "We don't know who tunneled out the burial chamber and we don't know why. Why was it so important to place the body of Emille in a hidden area?"

Oane says, "When we found the area, there were some items that indicated that someone who loved Emille very much placed her in that area."

Oane says, "Possible theories include it was believed that the spirit of Emille would protect the secrets of the burial chamber, and another that there was a fear of her being graverobbed. Regardless, we are thankful that she was hidden away."

Oane says, "We have gained so much from this discovery."

Oane says, "There are so many more mysteries that I would like to share with you, but there's just not enough time for this particular session. But perhaps another time I can cover the mystery of the Wilted Lady and the Hounds of Rutilor."

Oane exclaims, "And that's the end of my lecture series!"

Oane bows.

Oane says, "I'm hoping to write up a sequel to the series though so I hope to see you all there."

Oane asks, "Does anyone have any questions?"

Anthetir raises his hand.

Oane nods to Anthetir.

Anthetir asks, "First off, do we know where the original Theren guild was located?"

Oane says, "If it was burned to the ground, we believe it was not attached to the keep. Therefore, somewhere in the city walls."

Anthetir asks, "And did they have soulstones in those days? Couldn't Krapahae have been revealed for what he was with one of those, or trying to go through an arch?"

Anthetir asks, "But no more specific location is mentioned?"

Oane shakes his head at Anthetir.

Oane says, "As for soulstones. They did exist, yes."

Oane asks, "But how many murderers have you seen still walk through an arch these days?"

Oane says, "I'm sure it was no different."

Oane says, "Now, how the investigations led to him, I don't know."

Oane asks, "Other questions?"

Oane smiles.

Oane says, "I'd like to thank you again for coming tonight."

Oane bows.

Oane holds hands with Palorn.

Anthetir says, "Excuse me, Master Researcher..."

Oane nods to Anthetir.

Anthetir says, "One last quick one."

Oane smiles.

Oane exclaims, "Certainly!"

Anthetir asks, "Do you know what is depicted on the prayer mat in Emilie's chamber?"

Palorn carefully rolls up her standard, running her hands gently over the material of the standard.

Oane asks, "Depicted?"

Anthetir asks, "Is that the Fist herself?"

Anthetir nods.

Anthetir says, "There was a pale woman standing among a battlefield."

Anthetir says, "The only survivor."

Oane asks, "You mean the pictures in the Memorial of Champions?"

Oane ponders.

Anthetir says, "I saw a faded black prayer mat in the room with the mobile."

Oane asks, "Behind the broken wall shield?"

Anthetir nods.

Oane says, "No, there is no mat there."

Oane says, "If there is a mat there, sounds like someone left it behind."

Oane laughs at Anthetir.

Anthetir says, "I guess I was mistaken then, my apologies."

Oane says, "There is a picture of Emille in the Memorial of Champions though."

Oane smiles.

Oane bows.

Oane asks, "Ready Palorn?"

Oane says, "It's a long walk home."

[Paladins Guild, The Great Chamber]
Tapestries and flickering torches line the walls of the circular meeting room. Eight sets of silverwood benches, arranged in ascending rows, face a central speaker\'s podium. The topmost row, a full three Tog-lengths above the main floor, sits at eye level with a large chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. You also see some brass-bound ironwood doors and a winding ironwood staircase.
Also in the room: Corrial who is sitting, Tristtan who is sitting, Guild Researcher Oane, Sir Naelidaan who is sitting, Squire Palorn, and Legendary Paladin Ellsdragon who is sitting.

You see Guild Researcher Oane Hannitraulm, a Human Paladin.
He has black eyes. He is bald, with pale skin.
He is aged for a Human.
He has a thick bushy mustache that droops heavily on his upper lip and a long shaggy beard.
He is in good shape.

He is wearing an ink-stained leather scholar\'s satchel, some brass-riveted jousting plate, a blue linen tabard dyed with the bright green emblem of the lion of Chadatru, a pair of burgundy leather boots lined in soft black wool, a jadeite gwethdesuan, a kyanite gwethdesuan and a black linen bag.

Oane says, \"Just a little bit longer and we\'ll begin.\"

Oane smiles.

Oane looks over the podium for its sturdiness.
Oane rocks the podium back and forth for a moment before standing behind it.

Palorn moves to the side and behind the podium, standing silently but alert to the surroundings.

Oane asks, \"Let\'s get started, shall we?\"

Oane smiles.

Oane reaches into his satchel and pulls out a worn leather book with dog-eared pages and small notes hanging from the edges.

Oane places the book on the podium and begins to flip through the pages. After finding the desired bookmark, he steps back for a moment and smiles.

Oane says, \"Good evening and thank you for coming to the first in my lecture series on the history of the Paladin Guild.\"

Oane says, \"My name is Oane Hannitraulm and I head the research and archiving department of the Paladin Guild. The Paladin Council mandates my job and responsibilities.\"

Oane says, \"Some of you have met me once or twice in the past few years and others are seeing or hearing me for the first time.\"

A small golden snake slithers to Ellsdragon\'s chest, coils tightly into the shape of a charm, and grows very still.

Oane says, \"Many of you may wonder what I really do for our guild.\"

Oane snickers.

Oane says, \"Well! Besides sitting behind a large desk with mounds of books and papers, I seek the truth of our guild. I seek to find out how our guild came to be, by whom, and why.\"

Oane says, \"Along the way, I find many jigsaw pieces in our history and try to fit them into the little puzzle that eventually make the big picture.\"

Oane asks, \"What are some of my accomplishments?\"

Ellsdragon raises his hand.

Oane says, \"While much of what I do is behind closed doors and not privy to the public, the Paladin Council has allowed me to share much of what I\'ve done of the years through book publications and moving forward with certain expeditions.\"

Ellsdragon gets a mistwood icon in the shape of a watchful lion from inside his deep black greatcloak.

Oane smiles at Ellsdragon.

Ellsdragon puts his icon in his deep black greatcloak.

Oane says, \"Enough about me! Let\'s move on to why you fine people have showed up today.\"

Oane says, \"This is the first in the History of the Paladin Guild Lecture Series. Tonight I\'ll be covering \"The Calling of the Seven.\"\"

Oane leans into the podium and glances at his book.

Oane says, \"I felt that it was best to start off the lecture series covering the seven individuals who are considered the founding members of the Paladin Guild, as it exists today.\"

Oane inhales a great swallow of air.

Oane says, \"The guild has historically had its share of turmoil ranging from lack of leadership to poor organization. But I believe that the primary missing piece was just a simple lack of vision.\"

Oane says, \"People have been called to become paladins for as long as history can remember, but these were people here and there. There was nothing drawing those individuals together as a whole.\"

Raising one hand, Oane states, \"Tonight\'s first lecture is not about the numerous attempts to create a successful organization, but rather focus on the group of people who finally created the guild as we see it today.\"

Oane lowers his hand and smiles. \"It\'s amazing to think that these people started to shape our guild only four centuries ago. When writing this lecture, I had difficulties choosing what order I should talk about these incredible people but the obvious is chronologically when they came together.\"

Oane says, \"I also wish to apologize in advance that some of the information is sparse. I feel it\'s important to share facts; however, I will toss in a few of my own speculations at time.\"

Oane says, \"The first person I would like to discuss tonight is a man named Syal.\"

Oane glances at his notes for a moment and says, \"The official history on this man is filled with holes. He is in all respects, the man who is considered the founding member. He is the man who the next six paladins dedicated their entire lives and beliefs to.\"

Oane lectures, \"What little we know about this Human is based on various documents written about him and some from him. We do know that he was lower nobility and that he moved away from that life when the gods called upon him.\"

Oane lectures, \"We also know is that there are documented visions that he shared with people including Baron Falstad of Therengia.\"

Oane says, \"This was... in...\" Oane flips through his book for a moment and then looks up, \"This was around 8 BL.\"

Oane lectures, \"It appears that Syal\'s visions allowed little peace in his life. As I mentioned earlier, Syal is considered the founding member of the Paladin Guild and yet, the official council, guild, and guildhalls were all created after his death.\"

Oane glances around the room, catching your eye for a brief moment before moving on.

Oane says, \"Now, I say death.\"

Oane leans forward on his podium and says, \"But there have been many debates over what really happened to this man.\"

Oane says, \"As I said, I can speculate but my theory is no more educated than the next person.\"

Stepping to the side of the podium, Oane says, \"We do know that Syal sacrificed his own life to save his friends but what we don\'t know is if there was a body or a grave. There has been really crazy conjecture that the gods transported him somewhere else.\"

Oane waves his hands in a dismissive manner and says, \"While I would love to believe that the gods saved our founding father, my realistic brain tells me that he simply died and that his friends did not wish to share the location of his burial site.\"

Oane quickly steps back to the podium and flips through his book. He smiles and says, \"The next person I will talk about today is Syal\'looks best friend and mentor - Hraige.\"

Oane lectures, \"Some of you may have seen his journal in the Forfedhar guildhall. If you have not, I really do wish to stress that you do. Hraige was one of the first official councilors. Hraige was already a middle aged Dwarf that gave up his retirement and family to follow Syal.\"
Oane\'s eyes gleam for a moment as he says, \"We do know that Hraige was a master blacksmith before he even met Syal.\"

Oane\'s left eye twitches for a moment as he continues, \"We also know that he forged most, if not all, of the group\'s armor. His last set of armor was donated to the council; however, it is not available for viewing at this time.\"

Oane says, \"Studies on the properties of this set of armor have been in the works for as long as I have been a researcher.\"

Oane inhales a great swallow of air.

Oane lectures, \"If you read Hraige\'s journal, you will learn how he saw many changes in the guild from when became a councilor. While Hraige was not much for politics, ironically we learned much of early guild politics through many of his notes and private letters.\"

Flipping through a few more pages, Oane removes a bookmark and places it on the podium. \"Csilla is the next person I want to cover today.\"

Oane lectures, \"Like Syal, we have very little documentation on this Elven lady.\"

Oane lectures, \"In a temple of Chadatru, Syal and Hraige found her half-mad. It is unknown what caused her madness. But we do know that she was already called to be a paladin and Syal and Hraige helped her through whatever tormented her. \"

Oane furrows his brows and says, \"Nothing about her past has ever been revealed. It is speculated that she never told anyone where she came from.\"

Oane lectures, \"Even her death is unknown. When she felt her time was up with the council, she left on a sabbatical and there was no documented sighting of her again.\"

Oane says, \"I still hope to find more information on this woman.\"

Oane stretches his arms out and adjusts his spectacles. \"Let\'s see,\" he starts.

Oane lectures, \"These three would travel together for five years before they found other followers: Jerthay and Jenton. \"

Oane lectures, \"These two were twin brothers. The younger of the two, Jerthay, was called to be a paladin first. But his fear of separation made him hide and reject his calling until his brother was called. In most documentation, you will find that one name is usually associated with the other\'s.\"

Oane places both hands on the podium and says, \"In fact, it is believed that they were so connected, that when Jerthay died of a plague, his brother did not live long after that.\"

Oane lectures, \"We actually have many letters between the brothers. Early on, there were some campaigns that Jenton went on while Jerthay could not. We learned much about the other councilors from these letters.\"

Oane says, \"Only two more that I will be covering today.\"

Oane licks his finger and flips through a few more pages in his book. Pulling out another bookmark, he says, \"The next person is Dreldan.\"

Oane says, \"He is definitely not what people think of a stereotypical paladin.\"

Oane lectures, \"In fact, when we have discussions about him, one of the inside jokes is that he is a perfect example of a paladin not called by the gods based on his personality.\"

Oane snickers to himself for a moment and then regains his composure. \"Jerthay was not the only one of this group who rejected his calling at first. Dreldan also did this for many years.\"

Oane lectures, \"He was a mercenary for hire but the gods did not give up on him. We aren\'t sure exactly what made Dreldan \"see the light.\" But we do know that he befriended a priest at some point and finally accepted his calling.\"

Oane says, \"Another fact we know about Dreldan is that he ended up being the first guildleader in Crossing.\"

Oane nods and says, \"Yes, we\'ve known this for years. Please don\'t ask me why this information was never made public knowledge.\"

Oane lectures, \"Dreldan\'s time there was short-lived as he was already an old man, but since he had overseen the construction of the guildhall, it was only natural he headed it up.\"

Oane says, \"The final councilor of the original council was Medern.\"

Oane looks through his book before lifting up the book and snatching up a page.

Oane lectures, \"Though he was the last to join the group, Medern was the first guildleader in our history.\"

Oane nods.

Oane lectures, \"He headed up the Theren guildhall during its original construction until its untimely demise. As many of you know, a true guildhall does not currently exist in Theren.\"

Oane says, \"I couldn\'t say why it was never rebuilt; I only know what happened to the first one and only one. However... I digress. \"

Oane lectures, \"We do know that Medern was a follower of Syal before he was even called upon the gods. He followed Syal and his group learning of Syal\'s teachings until he was then called by the gods to serve as a paladin. We have no reason to not believe that Medern was Syal\'s first squire.\"

Oane lowers his voice and says, \"Although Medern lived to an old age, his murder led into a dark time in paladin history... Yes, murder.\"

Oane says, \"And there you have it. Our original seven councilors.\"

Oane closes the book on the podium and places it inside his satchel.

Oane says, \"Do we know more about these figures? Yes, we do. However, again there is only so much one can share regarding who they were and what they have done.\"

Oane smiles.

Oane asks, \"Are there any questions?\"

Oane puts his spectacles in his scholar\'s satchel.

Anthetir says, \"Greetings, I am Squire Anthetir of Therengia.\"

Oane smiles.

Oane says, \"Good evening.\"

Anthetir says, \"You mentioned an original guildhall in Therengia that was destroyed. The current home of the town\'s offices, Ibec Hall, was rumored at one point to house a guildhall.\"

Anthetir asks, \"Has your research shone any light onto this connection?\"

Oane ponders.

Oane says, \"Nothing documented that I am aware of.\"

Oane says, \"I know there have been attempts to rebuild it.\"

Oane says, \"And the council has been talking about it for a number of years now.\"

Anthetir nods.

Oane says, \"But historically, I\'m unaware of any new guildhall successfully ever built.\"

Anthetir says, \"I for one think that having the guild within the Keep reinforces our position as defenders of Therengia and the patronage of House Theren that we enjoy.\"

Oane says, \"Yes, I would enjoy a real office myself too.\"

Oane winks at Anthetir.

Anthetir says, \"Although I am certainly not opposed to more amenities being added if His Grace does a thorogh renovation of the Keep.\"

Oane ducks his head.

Anthetir chuckles.

Oane asks, \"Any other questions?\"

Eleftheria raises her hand.

Oane nods to Eleftheria.

Eleftheria asks, \"I apologize if this was already mentioned, but will this information be published?\"

Oane says, \"Not any time soon.\"

Oane says, \"This is merely a lecture.\"

Eleftheria nods.

Eleftheria smiles.

Oane says, \"But perhaps I will find time to write thorough books in the future.\"

Guild Researcher Oane's Lectures 2

[Paladins' Guild, The Great Chamber]
Tapestries and flickering torches line the walls of the circular meeting room. Eight sets of silverwood benches, arranged in ascending rows, face a central speaker's podium. The topmost row, a full three Tog-lengths above the main floor, sits at eye level with a large chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. You also see a winding ironwood staircase and some brass-bound ironwood doors.
Also in the room: Squire Palorn, Guild Researcher Oane, Tristtan who is sitting, Dame Eleftheria who is sitting, and Sir Naelidaan who is sitting.
Obvious exits: none.

Oane steps up to the podium and smiles. "Hello everyone," he says.

Oane places some papers on the podium and looks up, "Welcome to the second of my lecture series. For those of you who attended my first lecture, welcome back.

Oane says, "If you are joining us for the first time, then I would like to apologize if I name people that you may not be familiar with. I will do a tiny recap on notable people from paladin history but I will not be able to linger on who they are."

Oane twirls part of his beard between his fingers and steps away from the podium and says, "My name is Oane Hannitraulm and I head the research and archiving department of the Paladin Guild. The Paladin Council mandates my job and responsibilities."

Oane says, "Tonight's lecture is the second in the History of the Paladin Guild Lecture Series entitled "Artifacts in Existence and Legend.""

Oane's eyes sparkle as he grabs the podium with both hands and looks down at the papers.

Oane says, "It's important to realize that the recent dig in Forfedhar has provided many new discoveries for paladin history and academics. Therefore, much of tonight will have some focus in that direction."

Oane says, "I'd like to start off the evening with something new and exciting for me personally."

Oane says, "The icon found with Emille the Fist of Forfedhar."

Oane lectures, "For those of you that are not familiar with Emille, she was the first paladin guildleader of Forfedhar. "

Oane says, "She was so beloved that people felt there was a need to hide her body away from the public while a faux tomb was put as a front. We have not yet determined why this was done, but I digress from my lecture..."

Oane says, "When Asilias and I found Emille's true tomb, there were objects and items in there that I cannot begin to tell you about. Of course, some of these items are not yet privy to guild knowledge at this time."

Oane says, "As much as I wish I could have brought the icon today, the council strictly forbade me as investigations are still going on. We are lucky that we even have the knowledge we do about icons in general. However, we were not prepared for this icon. "

Oane says, "We do not know if this may have been one of the first icons made or one of the last given. Our knowledge of the history of icons is still extremely limited so we can only speculate. All we know is that this object has more power than we concluded. "

Oane smiles.

Oane says, "For those of you who might be interested in what the icon looks like, it is made of ash and unlike anything I have seen before."

Oane moves raises his hands in front of him to elaborate his description, "It is a triple headed icon representing all the aspects of Chadatru. Each aspect had something on it: the lion had a gold crown on its head, the mongoose had a platinum halo upon its head, and the goshawk had a bronze collar."

Oane says, "Maybe one day we can show it at a future lecture."

Oane says, "Let me take a moment to pull from the council archives."

Oane rifles through his papers and then glances up with a large smile.

Oane says, "There is a weapon that the council has in their possession."

Oane says, "No one knows where it came from but we know it was handed down the generations of a certain well-known family. The family had passed it on the council for safe keeping about 30 some years ago."

Oane says, "Like Emille's icon, there was no way I could bring it with me today due to the power it holds for a paladin. We are not even sure what would happen if it were in the hands of someone who was not a paladin."

Oane says, "But for a paladin, it holds the power to keep the paladin's soul safely intact with no repercussions for which it is used... namely first attack or murder."

Oane puts a shoulder on the podium and says, "It's been called the Longsword of Unrepent."

Oane's eyes sparkle as he continues, "You can see why the council would never allow such a weapon to be in the public reach."

Oane says, "It does have an interesting history before it finally reached the council vaults."

Oane says, "While in the possession of the family who has held onto the weapon for so many years, we were told that it was stolen multiple times by smugglers and paladins of ill repute. But somehow, the longsword ended up back with the family."

Oane says, "We are not sure if the family retrieved the longsword each time or if someone else helped in some way. The information was not relayed. But the family always made sure it was hidden in a new place."

Oane says, "Finally, a generation ago, the paladin who cared for the weapon felt it was best to be in the council's hands. And there it has been ever since."

Oane smiles and starts to flip through his papers again before settling on one.

Oane says, "Now, let's talk legend for a moment. Hopefully many, or at least some, of you have read my book, "Faith and Soul.""

Oane says, "If it's not obvious, I'll say it now. I love hearing about legends and stories about things, people and places that may or may not have existed in history."

Oane raises his hand and smirks, "Not just because I enjoy the challenge of rebuking or proving any of these stories but rather because it shows that our guild continues to flourish even through word of mouth or scribblings here and there."

Oane lowers his hand and digs back through his papers. "The next object I will talk about is by far legend all the way."

Oane says, "I cannot even confirm that it even might have been a real object or just the musings of someone's creative mind."

Oane looks up from his paper digging and says, "The Soulstone of Valor."

Oane lectures, "Now, before you ooh and ahh as I tend to do with legends, I can't help but wonder what this item really is. The obvious is that it is a soulstone, yes."

Oane says, "But what would make a soulstone so special to be considered a unique artifact."

Oane lectures, "Perhaps the stone itself was the first soulstone ever to be found?"

Oane lectures, "Or maybe it was an awkwardly shaped or larger soulstone that was like a circus attraction."

Oane lectures, "We know that soulstones only measure our own souls. Therefore, again, what could make a soulstone so special that it is or was "of valor."

Oane says, "Let me relay to you what I know."

Oane lectures, "Many years ago I was in the council libraries looking for information and I came across a partially broken clay tablet."

Oane lectures, "The writing was slightly smudged, but I could still read it. The following was written on the tablet:"

Oane chants:

"Half again as wide as norm
And nearly twice as long
Formed in shape of gauntlet fist
Sense of right and wrong
Mesmerizing, swirl on white
Speaker for the soul"

Oane chants:

"Honor, Courage, Bravery!
Goodness is our goal
Set on stone
Housed in bone
All darkness hide in shame
Born of might
Side of right
Valor is my name"

Oane says, "As with anything that I have no information on, should you ever find something, seek me out. This particular item has piqued my interest."

Oane inhales and coughs to the side of the podium clearing his throat.

Palorn glances at Oane with concern.

Oane asks, "I need a quick break to drink something. Could someone please bring me a glass of water or something to wet my throat?"

Tristtan stands up.

Tristtan went through some brass-bound ironwood doors.

Oane clears his throat.

Tristtan came through some brass-bound ironwood doors.

Oane says, "I always forget to bring water with me."

Tristtan offers Oane a glass of jasmine iced tea.

Oane accepts Tristtan's jasmine iced tea.

Oane beams at Tristtan!

Oane exclaims, "My thanks!"

Oane takes a sip of his tea.

Tristtan says, "better than grog i hope..."

Oane smiles and looks at the papers on his podium. He turns one of the pages over and looks back up.

Oane says, "And now back to the Forfedhar guild..."

Oane says, "For those of you that have visited this guildhall, you may have seen the Chapel of the Last Hope."

Oane lifts his hands up and waves them around in a distracting manner as he says, "It's a rather clean room don't you think?"

Oane says, "What many people do not know is there were a few items in there when Asilias and I visited."

Oane says, "There were some bedrolls and clay pots."

Oane raises an eyebrow.

Oane asks, "What could that mean?"

Oane puts his hands down to his papers and smirks, "I have a theory of course."

Oane says, "Let me read about the Fete of Banishment from my own book, "Faith and Soul.""

Oane clears his throat.

Oane lectures, ""The notes on the chapel site show that it was privately held, and that some well known guild members attended and even organized the event.""

Oane lectures, ""The event lasted for one week in which the Paladins fasted and prayed. The squires of these Paladins guarded the chapel, fetched fresh water, and delivered clothing each day for their mentors.""

Oane says, "Now, whether or not the Chapel of the Last Hope was used for this reason, I don't really know."

Oane asks, "Could the bedrolls and clay pots have belonged to some historic adventurer who needed a place of shelter? Sure. But why inside a building that is inside a guildhall?"

Oane raises a single eyebrow in contemplation.

Oane says, "The clay pots may have had water in them, but they definitely had wine at some point."

Oane says, "There were four bedrolls that we had found, two of which were rolled up."

Oane rifles through his papers before settling on a page.

Oane says, "Let's talk about another item of legend and revisit Emille the Fist."

Oane lectures, "For any of you who have visited her guildhall, you may see a few themes. One theme we found referenced is Emille's weapon of choice: a war hammer. However, we never found a war hammer in her tomb."

Oane lectures, "There's no documented information about Emille's armor or her weapons; however, we did find what we believe to be several sets of her armor buried with her in her tomb."

Oane says, "But no weapons and definitely no war hammer. It's possible she didn't have a special one that she used and perhaps she did not prejudice against any war hammer as long as it got the job done."

Oane lectures, "So why did I lump this particular object in with tonight's lecture?"

Oane grins and leans forward on the podium, "Simply due to other documents that refer to something called "Emille's Fist."

Oane lectures, "This could be a typo; a grammatical error that someone made."

Oane lectures, "We do know that Emille's knickname was "The Fist." But the typo or three that I found made it seem like it was more than just a knickname. The first typo was found in a letter:"

Oane chants:

"As I watched from afar, I could see her with the sun shining on her face.
Emille's Fist made the undead quiver in their eternal disgrace."

Oane raises an eyebrow and says, "Did this writer mean to say "Emille the Fist made the undead quiver in their eternal disgrace"?

Oane shrugs.

Oane asks, "Either could apply. But what about this particular typo found in a log of a council session?"

Oane chants:

"Csilla: We have finally received reports of her success.
The baron's messenger relayed that Emille's Fist has crushed the front line of the enemy."

Oane raises his other eyebrow and says, "Again, is this Emille the Fist herself or the reference to Emille's weapon?

Oane says, "Even with today's colloquism, we might say that our swordarm or our sword has sliced through the enemy's defenses."

Oane says, "This last reference was said differently but it could be read as literally Emille's fist as in... her hand."

Oane chants:

"When I told her about the state of the last battle,
She looked at me as if she were ready to pummel me with her steel fist.
I promised that I would never let her down again."

Oane says, "That excerpt is from a journal that was donated to the council by the Lorefist family."

Oane lectures, "Was it literally her gauntleted fist or was it the steel cap of a weapon?"

Oane exclaims, "It's also possible that I'm looking for a mystery and one does not exist. But that is for you to decide. And should you find any information through rumors or stories, I hope that you will relay it to me. No tidbit is too small for me!"
Oane steps away from the podium and bows. "That is all for this lecture. I hope that you enjoyed it. I also hope to do a part two of this particular lecture as five items is not nearly enough to cover.

Oane says, "Thank you. I'd like to open the floor to you for any questions you may have."

Tristtan raises his hand.

Oane nods to Tristtan.

Tristtan asks, "The capitalization in "Emille's Fist,” was that your interpretation or the manner in which it was written?"

Tristtan says, "would seem to clearly indicate a proper noun"

Oane says, "Taken directly from the papers."

Tristtan nods.

Oane says, "This is why it's so confusing."

Tristtan says, "then refers to an item i would think"

Tristtan says, "I refer to my fist, not my Fist"

Tristtan smiles.

Oane nods to Tristtan.

Oane says, "I agree."

Tristtan says, "ill get the shovels"

Tristtan chuckles.

Oane says, "Trust me, I'm hoping and praying it's a weapon and that we will locate it."

Tristtan nods to Oane.

Tristtan says, "thank you"

Oane says, "But there was definitely none buried with her."

Oane asks, "Other questions?"

You raise your hand.

Oane nods to you.

You ask, "Mayhaps the phrase refers to a group or unit she led into battle?"

Tristtan nods to you.

Oane says, "Also possible, certainly."

Oane says, "Though I hope not."

Oane winks.

You grin.

Tristtan grins.

Oane says, "Could even be all of the above."

You say, "Aye, am fond of hammers myself"

Anthetir says, "Not so much a question as on observation."

Oane says, "I love hearing those too."

Oane grins at Anthetir.

Anthetir says, "I wonder if it could be related to the Fist of Chadatru war hammer that a certain sect of the god of justice carries."

Anthetir says, "I believe one of them was found and auctioned off several years ago."

Tristtan ponders.

Anthetir says, "The owner is able to invoke Chadatru and receive blessings upon the weapon. And the head is shaped like a fist."

Oane says, "I've heard of that war hammer."

Oane says, "But as far as I know, that hammer looked new and perfect."

Tristtan says, "artifacts at auctions, sounds perfectly plausible with traders these days"

Tristtan grins.

You chuckle.

Oane asks, "Unless Emille never used her weapon, if it was a weapon, wouldn't it be more battered looking?"

Oane says, "But then you never know."

Oane asks, "Anyone else?"

Oane says, "One more lecture to go."

Oane smiles.

Anthetir raises his hand.

Anthetir blushes a bright red color.

Oane nods.

Oane nods to Anthetir.

Anthetir says, "It has more to do with the last lecture..."

Oane nods.

Anthetir says, "But when I went home I went to the keep archives to research the life of Medern a bit more."

Anthetir asks, "I couldn't find much. Is there anything you have found in your studies?"

Oane says, "We do have more information on him, yes."

Oane says, "I am hoping to do another book on these councilors as well."

Oane says, "A more thorough biography than my lecture."

Tristtan nods.

Oane says, "There's lots more to share and I'm very happy that the council has finally allowed some of this information to be shared."

Anthetir asks, "He was the one who was murdered, yes?"

Oane nods to Anthetir.

Sithsia. Necromancer, race unknown, Status UNKNOWN
Very old and powerful mage. Featured in the book The Forest of Night. Helped to erect the Zaulfung Stones along with Farn's Company. Prophesied the death of Dzree. Created the Forest of Night near Leth Deriel. Around the time of Sorrow's War, was seen visiting Sorrow. Supposedly the two know each other from a long time back.

Velmix Strawn Necromancer Status ALIVE
is considered to be a powerful human necromancer.
Body gives off lightning when killed, then disappears. Green Fog (poison)
Can tear off a finger and cause scourges to appear.
Points at target and cases them to speak gibberish and hinders all spell casting abilities.

During his first visit, in 356, he recruited elves to form an army for "The One and True King", presumably Teiro. It is of note that at the Necropolis in Aesry Surlaenis'a, there is a headstone that marks the gravesite of one "Velmix Strawn, born 199 years after the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer, died 225 years AtV." This perhaps is the source of the rumor that Velmix rose from his own grave. He uses a raven familiar that talks in rhymes, gave prophecy regarding Teiro returning. If you happen upon him, he is dangerous, and his staff seems to make some poisonous dust or smoke or gas. He was seen near at least one of those awful Goblin invasions west of the Crossing last week.

To further add to this mystery, Alishana reports that at the Necropolis in Aesry Surlaenis'a, there is a headstone that marks the gravesite of one "Velmix Strawn, born 199 years after the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer, died 225 years AV."

(356/359) Moon mages reported that Velmix was seen in Sorrow's Keep along with Sidhlot and Sithsia.
More recently (370) was associated with Grishnok, Jomay, and others in attacking the five provinces, see Outcast War.
In 371 , disabled the Turtles used by Moon Mages.

Lord Sorrow (was born Sura Ravenblades) Moonmage, Status PRESUMED DEAD unknown if he walked

Sorrow was a Moon Mage of immense power who attacked Zoluren and other provinces. The resulting war was, in many respects, on the scale of the previous Gorbesh War or the subsequent Outcast War. He later died turing an ritual at the Standing Stones near Riverhaven.

Was a member of the Crystal Hand, possibly prior to the establishment of the Moon Mage guild). He had been offered a seat on the Moon Mage Council at one point, but turned it down. Also helped Dzree destroy a city during time of the Dragon Priests. Son of one of the last Emperors of the empire. Human Lord of Mir'Kazeril, which is to the east of Sicle Grove. Knows Sithsia, but thinks that she is "quite mad". His moongates need two moons? According to Prayk, he wanted to destroy the Moon Mage tower in Zoluren.

Sorrow was not very active for a long time prior to his attempt to steal Romeode's ring that was bought at Terald's auction.

Employed many, including Parnore, Shartug, Darkensi, Asharvik, Prayk, Callava. Began attacks in 359 AV. Died in 363 at the Stones in a disasterous explosion. Afterward, Sidhlot took his books.

Callava Chalyl gnome assassin. Status DEAD
Sister to Yutwian the current Barbarian Pit Master in SteelClaw Clan.

She first came to notice when she was contracted by Sorrow to attack and keep the Barbarian Guild occupied and out of his hair. Callava stole the guild roster and used it to target those Barbarians of high standing in the guild. Several years later Callava resurfaced with a new contract to once again assassinate Barbarians who's names appeared on the destroyed guild registers. Eventually it was learned that she had been hired by the then Pit Mistress Raellia to frame and discredit her twin sister T'Kiel, the SteelClaw Clan Barbarian Guildleader.

Eventually, during fierce fighting Callava was killed and captured by Poshly and Chrystian. Callava walked when T'Kiel beheaded her. T'Kiel placed the severed head in a glass box and put it on display in the Barbarian Guild hall.

Prayk, Magus Status UNKNOWN
served under Lord Sorrow during the Sorrow War. He was destroyed along with Lord Sorrow while assisting in a magical ritual that went awry, killing everyone in and around the Zaulfung swamp. His wife is Darsanya Chevarre. Sister-in-law Lissanda Chevare.
At one point Prayk was rescued from Sorrow's Dungeon with the assistance of Hermit Gadmadorz who's father was one of the original builders of Sorrow's Keep.

Predator Darkensi Swiftclaws Prydaen Status ALIVE
During the Sorrow War, Darkensi was a Lieutenant for Lord Sorrow and led Elpalzi forces as well as S'lai forces against the various races. The only furless person that Darkensi considered an equal and friend was Prayk, and when Prayk and Lord Sorrow died, Darkensi had no reason to remain in the war so he pulled back to the Hub of Sunfall.

Munira race unknown guild unknown Status UNKNOWN
possible Red Sash Pirate known confederate of terak a pirate captain

Sadiaer human guild unknown Status DEAD
Minion of Sorrow's that walked the Starry road Moliko 363, In response, an evil greenish-grey moongate began to form, and we braced outselves, fearing all the brave effort had gone for nothing. To our joy, and to Sadiaer's horror and despair, the gate failed half-formed, and faded to mere flickering wisps of colour before vanishing entirely! Sadiaer's ghost cried out in denial, and then the corpse departed, as the mage was called to the Starry Road for his last walk.

A little known human mercenary who gained prominence during the Sorrow War as one of the more visible lieutenants serving Lord Sorrow leading the S'lai forces in repeated attacks upon Zoluren. Many brave defenders fell victim to his crow-feather decorated bows, but it was his control of the elemental forces of fire and lightning that caused the large numbers of deaths associated with his presence on the battlefield. The number of S'lai deaths due to his spells lends credence to the beliefs of some that his grasp on sanity was less than solid. Rumours claim a group of Zoluren citizens attempted to buy Sadiaer's loyalty during the war failing only to gather sufficient funding to meet his price. The blast that destroyed Lord Sorrow is known to also have taken the life of Sadiaer.

Sidhlot Silverveil, Necrolord elf Status UNKNOWN last seen in the Gash

A very old and powerful elven necromancer. Founder of the Bone Elves. Last seen entering a
cave systen in the Gash with Sorrow's book(s) and disappearing.Originally a Mountain Elf, he founded the Bone Elves, a splinter group. He and Morganae are now enemies, though there are rumors that she is his mother, lover, or sister. Killed Anlorahle, one of Morganae's daughters, on the gondola.

He corrupted Iron Clan into foul and evil tools in order to make them a weapon against Morganae. Iron Clan was composed of living beings, however, which has not been done before or since by Sidhlot or any anybody else. Might have been very draining for him.

Resurrected ?????? Sorrow a long time ago, an early event leading to their strange alliance. Won't tell why he resurrected Sorrow. In the event that Sorrow died, he was to be placed in charge. In late 361, contacted and negotiated with Sirolarn on behalf of Sorrow in late 361. Following Sorrow's death, he was assisted by Profiteer Strybjorn in taking Sorrow's books south to his home. Around the time of Sorrow's War, was taking 'tokens' from Bards to help with his creepy magic stuff. Appears to feed off these tokens by linking souls to it. Was able to 'compel' Marstan (a mere Necromancer) with his powers. Following the war and his trek south with Strybjorn, he had a magical shield that nobody was able to penetrate.

Sidhlot is nearly as old as Queen Morganae, and though the nature of their relationship is unknown, he hates her with a passion. Early on in her reign, Sidhlot led an uprising in an attempt to depose the Mountain Queen. His failure brought banishment, and the formation of the necromantic Bone Clan. Since then, Sidhlot has taken every opportunity to stir up bloodshed and chaos.
His daughter is Anashia Silvervail , who with Ammagio, led a party to get the Bonedancer's book
and return it to Sidhlot.

Shaman Sharalti Ahkves, a Prydaen Cleric. Status ALIVE
Sharalti Ahkve is Keeper of Kweld Gelvdael (Death Grotto) in the Zaulfung. She possesses profound knowledge about the Triad of Death, their rituals, the swamp and the temple itself. Presumably a high priestess of Eylhaar. Was instrumental in showing the way to Kweld Gevladael
when the Sluagh Prince stole the Black Standing Stone.

A Massive Sluagh Prince Status UNKNOWN
The sluagh prince is a foul-smelling, foul-tempered, foul-looking beast that makes a mother-in-law seem positively angelic. Seven feet tall, musclebound, and wearing some kind of ragged, odiferous hide over its own none too lovely grey skin, it stares with bloodshot eyes and an evil leer. It is a living creature rather than an undead one, though you can't imagine it being any uglier or meaner were it undead.
It is carrying a black standing stone.

A Giant sluagh king Status UNKNOWN
is a foul-smelling, foul-tempered, foul-looking beast that makes a mother-in-law seem positively angelic. It is a living creature rather than an undead one, though you can't imagine it being any
uglier or meaner were it undead.
It seems much more intelligent than the lesser variety, looming with a greater strength, and moving deftly about with agile precision.

Gypsy King Talorc Yngvar Moon Mage Human Status ALIVE
He resides in the Ker'leor region near Therenborough with the gypsy tribe that inhabits the area. He's been known to travel, however, going even as far as Shard to meet with persons of interest. Suspiciously, he seems to dabble in things necromantic and has been seen meeting with the notorious Sidhlot. He has also shown an interest in the Standing Stones for unknown reasons.

Stones The Objects

Zaulfung Stones
Powerful magical stones located in the Zaulfung Swamp east of Riverhaven. They have been involved in numerous important events throughout history, including the destruction of Sorrow.

A painting in the Gealeranendae College describes the Stones thusly:

The stones stand in a circle, one with an aura of lightning about it, another with an aura of flames. A black cloud looms above all the stones, and you can vaguely make out the shape of a woman's face in the clouds.

Only once so far did the stones move with magic.....when the sluagh prince had taken the stone....
Sparks of shimmering white light explode from the surface of the grey standing stone, trying to land where the black stone stood, but simply fizzling against the ground.

When the stone returned to its place.............
>Glimmering sparks arc between the reunited standing stones!
A deep, almost subsonic hum seems to emnate from the standing stones. Your hair stands on end as the grey stone begins to crackle with energy.
>Suddenly a blinding bolt of lightning leaps across the gap from the grey stone to the black! As your vision slowly recovers, you see the motionless form of Sharalti lying in the center of the clearing.

The Antique ring
During a festival in Theren, Terald auctioned off a ring that produced visions involving the creation of the Stones. Sorrow and his gang were first seen at this auction, trying to take some of Terald's items.

The book of the Stones and the Chambers

It is in Felen Ulak, The Chamber of Light and Hakkon Forkbeard, son of Hakon led the dwarves
of the stone clan militia to it. This 'Chamber of Light', if you will, is a vault capped by a perfect dome of dark stone. It is bathed in a soft white light that has no visible source. Three mages hold together a shield of force encompassing this mystical artifact, and
the pedestal upon which it stands."

"This artifact is an ancient leather book, a book of great magic and unfathomable power. It seems frail to the touch. Its cover is cracked in several places. Imbedded in the leather cover are two stones, one gray and one black. Indecipherable silver sigils are etched into the aged
cover. However, also etched in silver script along the binding,
The Title reads: "Zaulfung Stones: An in-depth analysis of the mysterious magical properties."

It is rumored to show how to release, summon, and ultimately control the indescribably malevolent demons being held back from our world by the Gateway known as the Zaulfung Stones.

Now Many have said that Sidhlot stole the Origional book before Sorrow used it and left a copy

A quote from Shimmermist describes what befell

"By means of deception and a traitor in our midst, Lord Sorrow did manage to take possession of 'the Book'. He got his hands on 'the Book'. And he felt triumphant. And he studied it. And he faced the Zaulfung Stones, confident that he could shatter their magical barrier against the demons teeming on the other side. Victory and the fulfillment of his dreams were about to be his at long last. However . . .Lust for Supreme Dominion is a dish best not partaken
, "We will never know exactly what went wrong when Lord Sorrow made his attempt to open the gateway. Did he misinterpret 'the Book'? Did he cast the spell incorrectly? Was it truly the authentic 'Book' that he had obtained after all? Or were 'the Book' and the Zaulfung Stones crafted far more masterfully than even he could ever understand? Perhaps what happened was
what had been ordained from the very beginning of Time itself. "
"In any case, Lord Sorrow was at last totally annihilated by his actions. 'Twas unfortunate, of course, that so many brave defenders'lives were seared away as well by the brilliant blue beam bursting forth from the Stones. Yet, I hope that they were proud, even as they screamed in agony while their flesh curled from their bones. For rarely is anyone so honored to
bear personal witness to such a great victory of Good over Evil as that. "
"And 'the Book'? Well, it returned to its resting place within Stone Clan. Validating the trust of . . . hmmm, well, we are not sure who or what . . . But nevertheless, be assured that we Dwarves yet fulfill our noble purpose in the grand scheme of the eternal struggle between Good and Evil. For, as Court Sage Sherella Ellion-Braun discerned upon examining it afterwards, 'the Book' is an artifact of great and unbelievably powerful Magic andpossesses a sentience of its own. And it has chosen us. "

Stones Geography

Therengia is a land steeped in old and news magics, from the Suur Pillar in Ker’lor to the Zaulfung Stones east of Riverhaven. Known for the mountains, lakes and rivers that surround the area, it truly has a variety of fauna ,flora and a long history.
In the following pages , we will try to show what we know of the Zaulfing Stones and hopefully anything so related.

Geography of Therengia

Therengia
Of the Humans of antiquity who wore the Seven-Starred Crown, over half were members of the powerful Theren family. Their noble heritage still shines in the Royal Province of Therengia, considered by many to be the true seat of power in today's Realms.

Therenborough
In Therenborough, one can experience a taste of the former glory and pageantry of the Seven Star Empire. The city has formed around what was and still is Theren Keep, a great stronghold of civilization. Many consider Therenborough to be the land's finest example of true culture.

Riverhaven
The river Faldesu provides the economic heart of Therengia with a bounty of seafood, salt, and trade goods. The town is not without its mysteries and legends mind you. Dunshade manor, once the great home of a local land owner, is now believed to be haunted and few dare to enter to prove otherwise.

Zaulfung
Long ago, this region was home to the graceful palace of Empress Merthamone. Today it's a swamp tainted by a malign land-devouring spirit held at bay by magic, haunted by the dead, and infested with dangerous beasts.
The Waste is a magically created wasteland north of Riverhaven and the Faldesu River, east of the Danduwen Forest. Centuries ago this normal landscape was obliterated by a magical disaster, and it is now a horrific place. Runoff from the region may have created the Zaulfung swamps. Also known as the Badlands or the Blasted Plains.

The Faldesu River
Literally, "Long River" in Gamgweth, its name is actually a misnomer, for the Faldesu is a small river in southern Therengia, stretching only from the Lake Gwenalion east to the Reshal Sea via the Faldesu Delta. Much of the river's banks are heavily forested, but the city of Riverhaven is built near the point where the Faldesu River meets the lake, making the river a critical conduit of trade between Therengia, Zoluren, and Qi. Downstream from Riverhaven, the fabled Throne City also resides on the Faldesu. The Northern Trade Route leads from The Crossing all the way up to the Faldesu River just opposite of Riverhaven, where two ferries provide passage across the river.

The Danduwen
a large deciduous forest in Therengia, north of the Gwenalion River. Famous for its apple trees, it also bears olive, elm, cherry, ash, oak and eucalyptus trees. The Dunshade Moors are located entirely within the southern portion of the Danduwen Forest. Several small villages are scattered through the forest, including El'Bain's Stop and Langenfirth.

Lake Laakmir
Near the Mountains of Ker'Leor is a lake, which the gypsies named. The waters of this lake are rumored to have magical properties. The lake itself is rumored in lore to have been made by the Suur Pillar, which will be discussed later on

Mountains
A pass in the mountains lead to the northren deserts.

One of the main areas of magic is the Zaulfung, the "Devil Swamp",which is vast region east of Riverhaven thought to be a creation of The Waste. It was home to the graceful palace of Empress Merthamone Today it's a swamp tainted by a malign land-devouring spirit held at bay by magic, haunted by the dead, and infested with dangerous beasts. It is comprised of three areas, the swamp, altar and the fortress Kweld Gevdael.

Next section will be of a Timeline of the Stones and people involved.

(all information contained is from personal and other's logs long posted from various old boards, and of course The Elanthipedia ) DD
